Based in Shanghai, Atelier Liu Yuyang Architects (ALYA) works to improve the built-environment in an honest, meaningful and sustainable way. Our core values are firmly rooted in the local while embracing forces of the global. We approach each project with a high level of clarity, methodology, and experimentation. Since founding we have always aimed to produce the highest quality of public works and private commissions that are both forward-thinking and research-based. Amongst our early projects were the acclaimed Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (Shanghai MoCA), Nanjing Rd. Pedestrian Kiosks, and Qingpu Environmental Monitoring Station. Some of our recent and current works include a mixed-use complex involving manufacturing, design, conferencing, dining and clean-energy facilities for an automobile R&D park, a public elementary school designed to represent the fabric of a canal-town, an accelerating production building adjacent to a high-speed rail track, a farmhouse renovated boutique hotel nestled within the rural Li River valley in Guangxi, a water-front brown field re-development masterplan, and within that masterplan an ecological sports park grown directly out of a dumpsite of waste building materials. As a fully independent and privately-owned professional practice, we have establish a long-term partnership of technical consultancy and international collaborators, with a strong emphasis on cross-displinary design integration for our professional services.
