Shenzhen Guangming Experimental School is the first nine-year boarding school built by Guangming District, which introduced the top school resources of Shenzhen Experimental Education Group, and wins a high degree of social attention. The school has 54 classes and 2,520 degrees. Due to the proximity to Shenzhen Experimental Guangming High School, the school hopes to create a primary and secondary school that echoes the overall style of the high school.
High density is an unavoidable problem in the construction of many schools in shenzhen. The contradiction between site tension and functional concentration is the primary challenge we face. The breakthrough of high floor area ratio number means that the school must seek vertical expansion and downward penetration.Achieving the diversity of campus space and the efficiency of use needs to explore a school construction model that takes into account the needs of scale efficiency and individual development.
Since the road grade of Niushan Road on the east side of the plot is high, in order to avoid noise interference to teaching, the sports area is arranged near the east side of the site, and the teaching area is arranged on the west side of the site. Considering the great differences in the age stages of students in the nine-year compulsory education system, the design divides the middle school and the primary school into two independent groups, which are convenient for separate management.
Public teaching spaces such as the library, gymnasium, and shared classrooms are arranged on the first floor, creating a diverse and convenient learning activity place for students. Logistical auxiliary functions such as dormitories and administrative offices are integrated into a high-rise complex, releasing more courtyard space and improving the possibility of children's contact with nature.
School becomes a complete carrier by designing a "learning axis" connecting primary and middle school groups and a "shared corridor" connecting gymnasiums, lecture halls, libraries, art corridors and teaching areas. At the same time, multi-scale overhead platforms are set up at different elevations of the corridor, relying on the "dual main axis" to form an efficient sharing, interconnected vertical traffic line, and finally intertwined into a unique school roaming system.
The parallel double axis is a redefinition of the informal public space on school, as well as an extension and sublimation of the formal learning space, creating more possibilities for teachers and students to teach, socialize, play and other activities.
In order to tap more space of school for use , we raised the sports field to the second floor. The overhead sports field can accommodate the 200-meter playground and 4 basketball courts for activities, which can meet the needs of students for large-scale daily gatherings. Below the sports field is a small indoor gymnasium and lecture hall. At the same time, we make full use of the other spaces on the first floor and the efficient column network layout on the negative floor to arrange overhead social parking garages and teachers' parking garages, which can solve the practical problem of "difficult parking" to the greatest extent.
Combined with the sunken courtyard, the auxiliary rooms with low noise sensitivity, such as the club activity room and the canteen, are adjusted to the negative floor, and a ventilated and lighted underground space is created through landscape vegetation to increase the comfort of teachers and students in their daily activities. On the basis of the traditional 200m wind and rain playground, we have also worked hard to develop more sports facilities for children on the negative floor, including table tennis courts, 60m running track, and indoor basketball venues, which can allow more students to participate in sports.
The design implants the sports function into the roof space, and connects the roofs of the teaching building through a 100-meter interesting runway. Roof landscape introduces a rich planting system to create a sky farm that can be used as a labor practice for students. Children can not only run freely on the roof, but also experience the joy of planting and labor.
High-density and standardized modern schools are the needs of urban construction, but the souls of children who yearn for nature should not be bound by normative templates . We hope that from the perspective of paying attention to the physical and mental needs of students to do our best to create some dynamic and interesting spaces for children.
The main teaching rooms of the school are arranged on the second floor and above, freeing up the space on the first floor as much as possible, leaving enough space for the further enrichment of the school "ceremonial entrance" experience. While Shenzhen is hot in summer, the overhead space is cool and ventilated, which will be the most important place for children's daily activities.
In order to allow children to have more opportunities to contact nature in the school, the main teaching building adopts the parallel and staggered academies layout, so that the building is naturally enclosed into three open inner courtyards. The courtyard of the primary school is combined with the outdoor landscape stairs, where teachers and students can discuss and assemble, creating a relaxed and free campus atmosphere. The courtyards are carefully designed in different styles according to the teaching areas of primary and secondary schools to increase the richness of children's activities.
We create multi-scale informal social activity spaces in different elevation spaces in the teaching area. Through efficient three-dimensional vertical circulation, students can quickly reach the outdoor space to play games in the break.
Based on the rethinking of traditional teaching places, we hope to use a diverse color system to light up the entire school space. Diversified colors can not only define the scope of different public spaces and add interest to the space, but also regulate the psychological emotions of students and promote their healthy growth.
We mainly selected four low-saturation colors of blue, green, orange and wood to decorate the interior space of the school. Blue is the representative color of Shenzhen Experimental Education Group, so we use "experimental blue" to decorate many places in the school, such as the ground of the negative floor and the wind and rain playground. Vibrant orange is mainly used in sports venues. Fresh green is partially applied to the corridors of the teaching area. The wood color with the simplicity and tranquility of returning to nature is very suitable for the space atmosphere of the library.
The project is located in the core area of Guangming District whose social attention is very high. We not only need to use an impressive style to make the school a wonderful city business card, but also guarantee to be coordinated and unified with the strong Chinese style of Shenzhen Experimental Guangming High School. so the elevation design has made a bold attempt to explore the national style aesthetic of educational buildings, which is an important innovative practice belonging to the new Chinese-style school building.
We get inspiration from the sloping roofs of Jiangnan dwellings in traditional Chinese painting. The ridge lines of the houses in ink style rise and fall one after another that like mountains and forests which is surging momentum in freehand brushwork. Therefore, the design applies this settlement-style building elevation form to the dynamic and continuous shape of the "shared corridor". The roof of the teaching building does not adopt the sloping roof of bricks and tiles in traditional Chinese buildings, but cleverly uses the height of the roof parapet to show the undulating dynamics of the "roof", which not only completely reserves the roof space for students to conduct teaching activities, but also shows the unique style of the school very well.
We hope that the school elevation can strengthen the spatial order of the elevation along the street and create the rhythmic beauty of the building through a simple and efficient vertical component vocabulary. The teaching building adopts white, gray and wood Chinese style which are the most commonly used in traditional houses, using two floors as a visual interface to create a unified vertical grid window system that is rich in changes, which not only beautifies the setting of air-conditioning seats, but also takes into account the function of classroom shading. Jumping wooden grid add a touch of liveliness to the neat assembly design.
In the elevation design of some large public places, such as gymnasiums, libraries, and stairwells,we boldly uses contrasting grids dominated by blue, yellow, and white. The cultural characteristics of primary and secondary school achieve the effect of harmony and unity between modern and traditional.
Under the general trend of pursuing national self-confidence and paying attention to cultural consciousness, the modern interpretation of Chinese style provides new possibilities for the shaping of school architectural space, and the full excavation of teaching space and appropriate blank space also provide more space inspiration for teachers and students potential. The Shenzhen Experimental Guangming School project is a brand-new exploration and practice based on the development of the educational model and the needs of students, aiming at the creation of the new Chinese style schools.
