Grande MAXXI International Ideas Competition

Premise

More than ten years after opening to the public, the museum designed by Zaha Hadid, the MAXXI - Museo Nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome intends to confront the challenge represented by a further innovation, marked by sustainability and state-of-the-art technologies.

The Museum, which has achieved important milestones in attendance, international reputation and solid management, has developed the Grande MAXXI Master Plan to confront the "new world" being shaped by important environmental, financial and health crises. This document contains an organic and integrated set of actions for planning the physical spaces and cultural innovation strategies to be pursued by the MAXXI in the decades to come. With these goals in mind, the MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (hereinafter the Fondazione MAXXI) is organising an international ideas competition for the Design of a Multipurpose Building and Network of Landscaped and Public Spaces outside the Museum.

Objective of the Competition
The Competition has been organised to identify the best proposal for the design of a multipurpose building and adjacent public spaces along Via Masaccio on the site of the MAXXI. The Competition Organiser intends, upon acquisition of the necessary economic resources for the construction of the project, intends to award the design to the selected winner.

Estimated Project Budget

The estimated cost of the project, including safety costs, is €14.200.000,00 net of VAT.

Public meeting to generate online access keys and opening of the registrations February 17, 2022

RFIs, by March 10, 2022

Publication of the list of RFIs and relative answers, by March 24, 2022

Deadline for the submission of all requested documents, by 12:00 noon CET on the May 13, 2022

Meetings of the Competition Jury, by June 9, 2022

Public meeting to decrypt the administrative documents and announcement of the ranking of submissions June 10, 2022

Verification of general and professional requisites, announcement of the winner and presentation of the Competition Jury notes by July 12, 2022

Online publication of all submissions, by July 19, 2022

Exhibition at the MAXXI of all submissions, and eventual publication by 2022

Prize for 1st place: €30.000;
Prize for 2nd place: €10.000;
Prize for 3rd place: €8.000;
