在赢得国际竞赛后，Snøhetta于2017年获委任设计上海大歌剧院。除了传统歌剧、戏曲表演及音乐会以外，歌剧院也会推出实验性的当代表演，以吸引多样化的观众群体。上海大歌剧院还将设有展览空间、教育空间、图书馆、影院、餐饮等功能设施，以其开放而包容的文化属性，成为上海的重要文化地标之一。

Following an international design competition, Snøhetta has been commissioned to design the Shanghai Grand Opera House in Shanghai in 2017. The project is designed to captivate a diverse group of audience offering both traditional opera performances and concerts, as well as experimental performances. The dynamics, openness and comprehensive programs beyond performing will make the Opera House as one of the major cultural landmarks in Shanghai.

上海大歌剧院的设计，从建筑、景观，到室内、平面，均由Snøhetta主持，并与华东建筑设计研究院有限公司、Theatre Projects及Nagata Acoustics合作，推动项目的在地性建设。近期，歌剧院的施工进展顺利，幕墙工程已接近尾声，将逐渐集中到室内与景观部分。上海大歌剧院预计于2025年底竣工。

Snøhetta has developed the architectural, landscape, interior, and graphic design for the Opera house, and the project is undertaken in partnership with East China Architectural Design&Research Institute (ECADI), Theatre Projects and Nagata Acoustics. Recently, the construction of Opera House has been progressing rapidly: after the main structure and enclosure, the major work will shift to interiors and landscape with full construction set to be completed in late 2025.

歌剧院位于上海后滩，关注绿色生态、低碳生活的社区环境，更加强调了上海大歌剧院作为开放型公共建筑的使命。歌剧院四周的景观设计采用放射状布局，呼应其扇形结构的同时，确保了歌剧院与周边城市空间之间无阻碍的开阔视野。

The Shanghai Grand Opera House is located at the Houtan neighborhood along the Huangpu River waterfront in Shanghai. The neighborhood, which has an ecological and low-carbon profile, emphasizes the Opera’s mission of being a public and open venue. The radial layout of the surrounding landscapes harmonizes with the overall geometry of the Opera building, ensuring key view paths from both the Opera to the city, and from the city to the Opera.

歌剧院的主体建筑如同一把折扇，徐徐展开，将表演者与观众汇聚到同一屋檐下，捕捉舞蹈与人体的动感。阶梯呈螺旋式上升，延伸至天空，既雕塑了建筑空间，也勾勒出宽阔的屋面。阶梯将地面与天空连接起来，为歌剧院带来了辽阔的城市景观与黄浦江景。

Designed to bring artists and the public under a shared roof, the sweeping form of the new Opera House connotes movement. The helical roof surface evokes an unfolding fan, capturing the dynamism of dance and the human body. Generating both surface and space, the radial movements of the roof form a spiralling staircase that connects ground and sky, while creating views towards the city and the Huangpu riverbanks.

折扇的韵律一直延伸到室内空间：大堂、门厅和三个剧院，以及视觉形象设计。上海大歌剧院的新标识为扇形图案，简洁而富有动感。

The spiralling, fanning motions extend throughout the project, into the lobby, the halls, and the three auditoriums. The Opera House’s visual identity also references the same movements, with the new, clean logo characterized by a highly recognizable open fan pattern.

The Shanghai Grand Opera House is a natural progression of our previous work with designing performing arts centers. It is a culmination of the competence and insight gained through projects such as the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Busan Opera House in South Korea, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Canada, and the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers renovation in Paris. The Shanghai Grand Opera House is a product of our contextual understanding and values, designed to promote public ownership of the building for the people of Shanghai and beyond.

上海大歌剧院的屋顶既是表演舞台，也是公共广场，可用于举办大型活动，也欢迎访客的日常参观与休憩。歌剧院广场全年24小时开放，旨在提升公众的社会归属感，成为个人与集体记忆的文化建筑载体。

The Opera roof will become an accessible stage and meeting place, suitable to both large-scale events and everyday visitors. In celebrating both the collective and the individual, the plaza will allow visitor access 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, engendering a sense of public ownership.
