本栋住宅位于愚园路一处历史悠久的住宅区内，在这里不同历史时期的建筑相互混杂，却又充满生机。本栋住宅就是其中有代表性的一栋，改造前为3层混凝土框架结构，双坡屋顶，面宽2.5米，进深8.7米，最高点8.8米。东西朝向，并与两侧住宅贴建。室内空间拥挤狭窄，光照条件差。

This house is located in a historic district of Yuyuan road, within a vibrant context of houses from different period. As one of the typical ones, it was a 3 floors concrete structure house with pitched roof, 2.5m of width, 8.7m of depth and 8.8m of peak height. It is east-west direction and attached by the neighborhoods that gives it very narrow interior space and poor lighting condition.

随着老城区的城市更新，居住空间在不断地被挤压。面对这些问题，我们认为最大化的利用此些建筑有限的空间，以此来满足人们越来越复合化的功能需求，以顺应时代的发展，并使其产生持久的生命力。

With the renovation of the old quarter, the living space for the inhabitants is decreasing, which drives us to face the situation and find a way. So, we believe that maximize the use of limited space of the house to meet the complex demands of mode life, and to give the house lasting vitality is the concept of our design work.

我们重新平衡各空间所需的体积，立体化分配，根据功能压缩无效高度，拆除与抬高局部楼板，形成整体3层局部4层的空间关系。

We reassessed the necessary volume of the house functions, and gives it a three-dimensional plan. By compress the useless space, we remove and rebuild the partial floor, the house was formed to be a new condition with partial 4 floors in it.

交通空间与储藏置物相结合设置于房间中部，上方开设采光天窗，成为整栋建筑的核心，所有功能围绕其展开。天光穿过纤细的置物架与玻璃地面，洒落至首层，柔和的光线蔓延到各个房间之中。

The circulation space was inserted in the middle of the house and combined with and storage space. A skylight was created on the roof above the stairs and it becomes the core of the architecture, with all house function revolves from it.The sky light pour down through the elegant storage shelf and glass floor and arrives in the ground floor, produced a soft tune of reflection that fills the whole house.

采用1厘米截面的细方铁组成整个交通空间的支撑，以尽量减小结构占用的面积。

Slim iron tube was used to consist the support system of the circulation space to reduce the volume of structure, while also to produce a feeling of light.

功能空间整体用实木包裹，通过纯粹的材质实现空间的延展。满墙的木质翻板也同时具备了弹性使用的可能。简单的构造，纯粹的思考，形成了丰富的空间体验，生活也因此产生了无限的可能。

In order to use a pure material to produce a outspread feeling for a narrow house, the rest of house function spaces is generally covered by wood, Full wall of wood installation also provide a flexible use.Generally, by a pure way of thinking and a brief construction, a multi-layered interior experience is and boundless possibilities of lifestyle is created.
